Dear friends,
I hope this email finds you healthy and a bit more hopeful as the new year approaches. At the start of each new year, we look towards the future, forming new resolutions and articulating our aspirations. Here is mine: I would like to inspire you to make more art!
Why Make Time To Make Art?
Making art reduces stress. The focus that art requires can bring you into a flow state, like a moving meditation. Staring at the pointy petals of a paperwhite, while your pen glides over a sketchbook page brings calm and presence.
Making art is expressive and productive. With art, you can create, rather than consume. You are bringing something unique and new into the world, an expression of how you feel and think, to share with those you love.
Making art helps us see the world with wonder and gratitude. Through the techniques of art (value, color, line, composition...) you being to notice more — staring at a pile of laundry or dust motes floating in sunbeams brings wonder and gratitude, rather than a compulsion to clean.
While you may feel hesitant to sit still and create right now, art can reframe your outlook on life and the world. So begin the new year by changing your outlook and the staff of Slow River Studio will be here to help you see the world in a whole new way!
Love, Jess
